Blue Mountain Recycling was founded in 1999 as a material recycling facility in Philadelphia. The headquarters is located at 2904 Ellsworth St. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company has dedicated itself to long term recycling solutions. Blue Mountain Recycling presently has three operating centers and employs over 80 people.  They are the sole processor of material collected in Philadelphia's residential curbside recycling program.

In September of 2005, Blue Mountain was acquired by Casella Waste Systems, Inc., a regional, non-hazardout solid waste services company.  Headquartered in Vermont, Casella provides collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services primarily in the northeastern United States.

With hundreds of thousands of customers, from single residences to entire towns or companies, Casella Waste Systems is the best, integrated waste management company in the Northeast. And while most of our customers still associate waste disposal with the local transfer station or the familiar truck that picks up their weekly trash, their attitudes about waste management have changed. For many, recycling is a common practice. More and more people are aware of how unmanaged disposal and transfer sites can affect their health and the environment. Where we once simply tossed waste into unlined dumps, we now build and operate highly technical, state-of-the-art, double-lined regional landfills. Where few, if any, standards existed, today we develop comprehensive waste management strategies that meet strict federal, state and local regulations.

For Casella, growing from a one-truck operation to a complex waste disposal business was all part of serving our customers.
